How Many Websites Should I Run

A question that I get asked fairly regularly is “how many websites should I run? Am I better with one website or lots of little ones?” The question has some different aspects, so, as someone who runs more than one website, I’ll try to share some of my experience.
… no website will ever be finished, but it can reach a point where it covers everything it needs to and just runs in low maintenance auto pilot mode …
If you are brand new, or even if you’ve been doing this for a while, and you aren’t having much luck, my advice is to do exactly what Lynn Terry says and concentrate on just one website. You need to concentrate on making this website as complete as possible. No website will ever be finished, but it can reach a point where it covers everything it needs to and just runs in low maintenance auto pilot mode. The tricky part is figuring out if the website has reached its earning potential or not. If you are ranking in the top 5 for your most profitable and sought after keywords, you might be there. If you have set your website up to be an industry leader, and it’s the brand people think of when they think of your niche, then you definitely are there. Sometimes, if your space is dominated by large brands with a larger staff, higher budgets, and an offline marketing component, it’s hard if not impossible for a small guy to break into the top results. Sometimes competing at that level costs you more time then you will make back in dollars, but that’s something you have to figure out on your own.
Hopefully, along the way of building your first successful website, you learn to do two things: 1. minimize the amount of work and maintenance your website needs and 2. how to outsource effectively. When you are first starting out, you usually have more time than money and end up doing things yourself. It’s pretty rare that you find someone who can write well, do design and graphics, and understands marketing and information architecture. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and figuring that out is part of the learning process. Learn what your weaknesses are.  Those should be the things you outsource first. Learning to outsource and remain profitable is a skill you also need to learn. In fact, I think it’s the biggest lesson people can learn from the leaked AOL document (see what you can learn from content farms).
… Learn what your weaknesses are. Those should be the things you outsource first …
Once you have your website ranking for its terms, it’s near the top of its earnings potential, and you have employees or subcontractors who can keep it running without your day to day intervention, then its time to start thinking about building or buying another one. In the olden days, it used to be sexy to be an SEO with thousands of churn and burn websites. Now, I’m not saying that’s not a money making strategy but, unless you are there now or have access to a lot of tools to create that kind of stuff, it’s probably not worth it. The time it takes to get a spammy website to rank isn’t that much shorter than a good brand-able one, and the brand-able one will last longer unless you use high risk tactics on it.
At this stage of the game, Google is heavily biased towards brand websites or websites that at least mimic signs of being a brand. There is so much emphasis on these signals that I strongly recommend having a smaller amount of quality websites as opposed to a large quantity of crappy ones. This doesn’t mean you should build one huge sprawling website. It means you should focus on quality: start out with evergreen content, mix in seasonal content, and linkbait no matter how boring your subject is. Do content audits and regularly prune out the under-performing pages and keep your evergreen content updated. You want a fast, lean shark who can be large but deadly. You don’t want to  be a fat, bloated whale of a website that’s slow to move or adapt. This doesn’t mean I recommend you have only one website–after all, a diversified income stream is better than one that comes from one source. It just means I think you need to be sure a website supports itself before you move your focus on to something else.
So what are the takaways from this post:
  • Do regular content audits, prune dead or under-performing pages, and update out dated ones regularly.
  • Build links on regular basis even if you have a boring topic.
  • Outsource skills where you are weakest first. Look to keeping the maintenance as low as possible.
  • Once you have top rankings and can do all of the above profitably, look to expand.
  • It’s better to have fewer, high quality sites than a greater number of low quality websites.

Affiliate Marketer Tools

Before plunging in and dissecting the three most important tools you'll need to succeed in Affiliate Marketing, let me first list at least some of the questions which any hopeful affiliate marketer worth his/her salt should want answered before even considering entering this profitable field.

 1. What does it take to become a successful Affiliate
    Marketer?

 2. What are the key ingredients of an affiliate marketing
    success story?

 3. Is there a shortcut to Affiliate Marketing glory?

These are the kinds of questions that play around in the minds of hopeful affiliate marketers, and I'll do my best to answer them in this article.

Although affiliate marketing is touted as one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn money online, it's not as easy as it sounds.

The wise affiliate marketer plans every action and executes it the best way he can. Having the right tools can spell the difference between becoming a major success story, or winding up beaten and penniless, as many do.

It is vital that the potential affiliate marketer accept the fact that only by using the right tools will his/her Affiliate Marketing business become a profitable venture.

We have consulted some of the most successful affiliate marketers in the business in this regard and they have generously revealed what are, in their opinion, the top three Key Tools for a successful affiliate marketing business. Straight from them to you, these are discussed below.

Key Tool #1: YOUR OWN WEBSITE

The most important and indispensable tool in Affiliate Marketing is having your own website. The first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website.

Your website is the jumping off point for all your marketing efforts. Thus, you must first build a user-friendly website which will appeal to your prospects and encourage them to click on the links to the products and services you are promoting (and, hopefully, make a purchase).

It is vital, therefore, to focus your efforts on building a website that will cater to what your prospects need.

The most important thing you should always keep in mind is that almost all web users go online to look for information, and not necessarily to buy something. Above all else, make your website full of original, relevant and useful content.

People love articles that are appealing and helpful. Remember that, on the internet, content is king, and good, quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking.

By posting relevant and useful articles, you establish yourself as an expert in that field, making you a more trustworthy endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good reputation is a tremendous step in building up a loyal customer base.

     Key Tool #2: USING INCENTIVES

Competition is extremely tight in the internet world. You must always be one step ahead of your competition to ensure that you capture a significant share of your target market.

Therefore, you must use every possible means to encourage people not only to visit your site, but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you're promoting.

Building an opt-in email list is one of the best ways to gather potential prospects. Start your own newsletter or ezine.

Then, offer value-added incentives to your prospects to encourage them to subscribe to your newsletter. You can give away fr.ee software, access to exclusive services, a fr.ee eBook, or even fr.ee access to any product you may have tried to market in the past which didn't sell well - this could be your own product, or one to which you have resell rights.

The fact that it didn't sell well for you doesn't mean that your prospect won't find it a valuable gift...particularly, when it's fr.ee!

     Key Tool #3: LINK POPULARITY

The importance of driving highly targeted traffic to your website can't be overemphasized. The all-important web traffic is at the top of the list of the most important properties in the internet world. Commit this to memory.

Attracting people to your site should be your first, and foremost, order of business. Do everything to achieve a high search engine ranking. Link Popularity is one of the factors that search engines use to determine search engine rankings.

Thus, to enhance your link popularity, you must launch an aggressive, no holds-barred, reciprocal link campaign.

One of the best ways to do this, at no cost at all, is by submitting articles with your website's link in the resource box to e-zines and article directory sites. This will not only bring exposure, you will also have  the opportunity to advertise for fr.ee just by including a link back to your site. The more sites you submit your articles to, the better your link popularity can be.

Work diligently to make your articles are original, relevant  and useful, so that more websites will pick them up. It's impossible to put a price tag on the exposure these efforts will bring you.

  There you have them...

These are but three of the many tools that an affiliate marketer can use to maximize his/her earnings potential. The
possibilities  are endless and are limited only by your imagination, creativity, and resourcefulness.

And, it goes without saying, you're encouraged to explore other ideas, and adapt other strategies besides these, in order to help you become a high rolling, well paid, affiliate marketer.

Tips Selling on eBay for Newbies

I am directing this article to those who are just starting their eBay Selling Venture.  Whether you’re selling books, DVDs, CDs, collectibles or clothing, all things (with the exception of eBooks and services) need to be mailed.   And it’s the postage, handling fees and mailing that seems to cause a great deal of angst among new sellers.

You’ve heard the advice – do not overcharge for shipping.  That is very good advice, indeed, as nothing turns off potential buyers like sellers who gouge you on the shipping costs.  It’s also a practice that can rack up bad feedback.

However, I am going to play Devil’s Advocate here and suggest that you do not go overboard and give so much of a break on shipping that you’re chipping away at u’r  profits.  It’s good to remember the “hidden costs” of shipping:  bubble wrap to secure u’r  breakables, tape, shipping envelopes, boxes, etc.  Then there’s the gas you put in u’r  car to take all those trips to the post office.

You might think I am being cheap, but, if you added up all u’r  eBay expenses for the year (as some did for their recent taxes) you might be shocked to see how all the packing materials and gas for u’r  car added up and took a little chunk out of u’r  eBay profits.  And, believe me, they do add up.

Some people are even more surprised to find they underestimated the weight of their packages, causing their profits to shrink even further.

How can you be fair to both you and u’r  buyers?

Buy a scale.  It may sound simple, but purchasing a scale can save you a bundle in shipping.  If you’re just eyeballing the weight of the package, you can often times guess too low, and be in for quite a shock when you go to the post office and see the package is going to cost twice what you thought to ship.

Know the dimensions of u’r  packaging before listing the item.  Some packages cost more to ship because of their dimensions.  Knowing the weight alone isn’t enough.

Offer the buyer a variety of shipping methods.  Some prefer speedy delivery with Express mailing, while some prefer to save money with parcel post even though the wait is longer. It’s always a good idea when using parcel post or other slower ground shipping to alert the buyer by email that it can take anywhere from 8 to 10 days.

Save u’r self money whenever possible by using boxes that have been used.  Most stores are more than happy to let you rummage through their old boxes and take some home with you.  But, do remember to choose boxes that are presentable, secure and strong enough for u’r  items.  And, if you have breakables, do not skimp on the bubble wrap.

Give u’r self a small handling fee that will cover u’r  expenses.  Some sellers add on an additional $1 or $2 to the shipping fees for their handling fees (depending on the cost of the item and how much packaging you have to use).  I really advocate doing this because u’r  expenses will add up if you do a lot of selling on eBay.  Be sure to be upfront with u’r  buyers that you have a small handling fee so they can’t complain about it later.

Being fair to both u’r self and u’r  buyer will keep you both happy, and keep more of u’r  profit in u’r  pocket.

Get Inbound Link To Your Site

Inbound link is one of the most important assets in online business. In this article, you will find different linking strategies you can use without spending a fortune.

1.Submit articles to article directories.
It is probably one of the most popular ways of getting inbound links to your site. A few of the article sites where you can submit to are ideamarketers.com, goarticles.com, ezinearticles.com, articlecity.com and articlesfactory.com.

Not only article, depend on what you want to promote or the theme of your website, you can also submit your own scripts, images, videos, jokes, 3d models, quotes or other type of works to different websites or directories.

You may need to use different type of works for linking purpose because:

1. you need to show the examples of your works.
2. you have difficulties to create articles related to your products.
3. you have great abillity in creating scripts or other type of works.
4. you have problems in english.
5. and so on.

Some webmasters create scripts where other webmasters can use the scripts as long as they keep certain link that points to the creator's websites.
Example: eclipsecrossword.com

Try to type in Google or other search engines phrases such as "submit cartoon", "submit movie" if you want to submit your works other than articles.

2. Submitting your site to directories

If your website is directory-worthy, you may try to submit your site to directories. Try to visit http://www.best-web-directories.com/directory-list.htm to find directories that accept paid or free submission.

2. Posting in forums
Look for forums highly related to your website. You will have the opportunity to place your link in the signature line by participating in forums. Try to participate in associatedirectory.com's forum. I found that links in my signature is crawled by some popular search engines.

Similar to participating in forums, you can also get inbound link by giving comment on blogs.
.
3. Creative Commons License
You can apply the Creative Commons License to your site and letting Yahoo discover you. Through the creative commons search engines, your site can get many targeted inbound links.

To find out more about creative common license, you can visit http://www.creativecommons.org.

4. Reciprocal Linking (Link Swaps)
With this strategy, you get links to your site by also giving links from your site to other websites. Although it seems that search engines appreciate one-way inbound links more than reciprocal links, it is still a traffic-producing method you may consider to use. There are a few services available to automate the linking process. Try checking www.linkmetro.com if you want to use this strategy. This well established service allows you to approve or disapprove link exchange requests from other webmasters.

LinkMachine is a reciprocal linking software that could also help you to trade links with other webmasters automatically.

Of course the possibilities of getting inbound links to your website could be endless. Be creative. By doing it successfully, you will be able to get your site listed or boost your position in the search engine and then build enough streams of traffic to your site.

Everything About Reciprocal Link Exchange

Reciprocal Link Exchange is still a very popular practice.  It should be-- after all there are still many benefits to organizing a link exchange campaign.

First and foremost, a Reciprocal Link Campaign encourages webmasters to explore the various websites in their genre.  It helps establish communication among web developers and creates strong online communities.  This can be a valuable tool for information sharing and promoting the advancement of a specific topic, like education or technology.

Reciprocal Link Exchange is still a very valuable practice.  For one, it is easier to acquire reciprocals than one-way links.  This follows the philosophy of, "You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours."  If the site you are promoting contains valuable information, it is likely other webmasters will accept a reciprocal link invitation.  This is especially true if you are willing to display a link to their site in a prominent, organized directory.

Remember, credibility is key.  Do not link to sites with little value, sites on unrelated topics, or link farms and FFA sites.  Google will assign some value to reciprocal links that it deems relevant.  Sites containing the same keywords and information will be viewed as connected sites, and will thus count towards your "votes" as a credible site.

How to Organize a Reciprocal Link Campaign

First, seek out the websites you would like to exchange links with.  Try to pick sites with a higher Google PR than yours.  Then, politely email the webmaster and explain why their readers will benefit from a link to your site.  Show them the page that their link will be posted on.  Make sure there are not too many links on the page, that they are credible, and be sure to list the links by category.

Having trouble getting a positive response?  Try a few of these "tricks of the trade".

When you ask a webmaster to participate in your reciprocal campaign, enclose a pre-made html code so it's an easy cut and paste job to create the link.

If your site distributes a newsletter, start a contest for ad space.  Offer to advertise a website in your publication- in addition to a free link- to the sites that offer you a reciprocal link.

You can also try posting testimonials about other sites on your homepage.  When you're finished, send a link to your comments to the webmaster.  Who would pass up the opportunity to brag about a great review?

Get creative!  There are plenty of ways to entice people to join in your campaign.  The key is to be polite and to-the-point.  Let the webmasters know how THEY are going to benefit from the exchange.

Reciprocal links are less valuable than non-reciprocal in the eyes of Google and other search engines.  However, relevant links do count towards your overall Google PR.

More importantly, a reciprocal linking campaign helps you connect with other webmasters in your community.  You can exchange visitors and help strengthen the online presence of your website topic.  Being an active member of a connected community increases your credibility, and helps you stay in touch with changing times.

Another very important strategy in your linking campaign should be the submission of your website's domain name to highly relevant link directories and the best
way to quickly submit to over 350+ link directories is by using the Link Directory Submitter.

What Must You Do to Create High Traffic to Your site

OK, so that your site is launched now and I do not see any traffic to your website. Same value if your site in search engines can be frustrating. All you need time, patience and a little preparation. Start with information on meta tags. Although most major search engines do not zoom in the meta tags for keywords, title and description and basis of any classification beyond. They concluded want to ensure that each page contains the title and description, and be sure to use the main keyword phrases in title and description. Each page of your site must have its own title and description.

When designing a website to think first ever remember is to create the website for the user, not for search engines, but also as a deliberate warning to research practices appropriate engine.

1. Content is King
When developing a Web site note that search engines crawl the content of websites. So the situation is more likely to win
more attention to the mountains of original content.

2. The development of strategic partnerships and reciprocal links:
Search engines rank a website in many ways, but one of the most important criteria for a page is the number of sites, the backlinks to this alias. Do you know any sites to which are similar, but not a competitor? If yes, please contact the webmaster and see if they exchange links with you might be interested. You can also enable many aliases free text link exchange reciprocal link. Anyway, you can increase your backlinks expediential, and because it is simply not the main tool for receiving the data, the use of your time and do not really want. Another way to get backlinks is through forums and blogs. Join e-groups may make chat rooms, newspapers and discussion groups for your link to your website company create a lot of attention and will be indexed by search engines. Although the goal of search engines with the backend connectivity you see are stock for the traffic to other sites, links on the left.
It is believed by many that the major engines use a tactic to avoid spam-called "sandbox" This means in effect a waiting period prior to index your site on their search engine. This is very controversial, is also one of the reasons why you to websites to find outside the sandbox is the link with you. Normally, the sandbox will last 3 to 6 months.

4. Watch and wait, just a change at a time:
To measure the progress of your site and how much traffic is, and whenever you make changes, you must enable both. If you make changes, then that hard work and effort and you will find your site in the engines of the gap can be reversed. The key to this step is certainly the patience.

5. Add new content often
It seems that search engines see your site but are likely. Some things we are looking for a place in the course of time, the level of activity on your site. If you've developed a site 1 year ago and have not yet made a simple update or even start a new page in the site, to slip into the search engine and held elsewhere. Conversely, if you constantly add new pages to your site, your place in the ranking of the site may contribute to replace the outdated pages. This does not mean that you must add a new page every day, but try this once a month and you'll be amazed at the results.

6. Telling the media that the web site:
Press releases of interest can bring much to your site and building backlinks especially for sites with heavy traffic. If you write a press release is not spam, with an article full of economic ties, are not expelled. The best way to write a press release is something interesting in your company to find out who has never been raised by other companies. Some questions, examples would be: You have an interesting or dangerous, your site offers something strange or unusual, has found a way to facilitate the period of life, streamline, or you have a product or service for the save / other money. If you focus your press releases on these criteria, and only a brief reference to your website with links just one or two you will see Max, the other news sites will pick up your story and you're still enough momentum and popularity as television, radio and newspapers want to interview him.
